Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Cincinnati Cyclones announced today that they have re-signed defenseman Jason Woll to a contract. The Cyclones are the ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Montreal Canadiens and Nashville Predators.
Woll, 24, will launch his first full season as a professional after spending the final ten games of the regular season and 15 games of the Kelly Cup playoffs with the Cyclones in the spring. He joined the club after finishing his senior year at Milwaukee School of Engineering. At MSOE, Jason played in 108 games and netted 14 goals to go with 63 assists for 77 points and 319 penalty minutes. A three-time Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association All-Academic selection, he was also selected to the MCHA All-Tournament team in 2006-07. Woll also twice in his career earned MCHA âDefensive Player of the Week' honors. In addition, he was a four-time member of the league's All-Conference team at seasons end-only the third player in MCHA history to achieve this.
The six-foot-two, 210 pounder from Portland, OR played 29 games last season for MSOE and collected a pair of goals, dished off 21 assists for 23 points and had 45 penalty minutes. He was selected to the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association's All-Tournament team, having helped the Raiders advance to the Harris Cup's championship game. There, MSOE was defeated in the championship game by Adrian College.
Woll netted three assists with Cincinnati during the regular season and his +7 plus/minus rating was third-best on the team among defensemen and third-best on the club among rookies. During the postseason, Jason also tallied three assists and 52 penalty minutes with a +2 rating. His plus/minus rating was tied for the team lead among rearguards and the penalty minute total established a club playoff record-sixth-most in the 2009 ECHL postseason and second-most among all league rookies.
"Getting Jason Woll back on board is a big plus," Head Coach Chuck Weber said. "He showed potential at the end of last season and is going to have every opportunity to continue to contribute this year."
Tickets for the 2009-10 Cincinnati Cyclones season are now on sale. The Cyclones Sales Department can be reached at 513-421-PUCK, extension 3. The Cyclones open the season at Elmira on Friday, October 16 and after three road games, host their home opener at U.S. Bank Arena against Wheeling on Saturday, October 24 at 7:30pm. There will be a special divisional championship banner raising ceremony prior to that game.
