
Ron Walsh named 2006 G. Sydney Halter Memorial Award winner

Saskatoon, SK - (November 24, 2006) - The Canadian Football League (CFL) is pleased to announce that the 2006 G. Sydney Halter Memorial Award recipient is Ron Walsh. The Award was presented earlier today at the Russ Jackson Awards Luncheon in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan .
The CFL presents the G. Sydney Halter Award each year to an amateur official who has demonstrated officiating excellence and has made great contributions to Canadian football officiating consistently over the years.
Walsh started officiating football in 1960 and though he retired from field work in 2004, he still does evaluation of officials for the Saskatoon Football Officials Association.
Over his long and illustrious career, Walsh worked every level of football, both in urban and rural Saskatchewan, calling six-man and nine-man football games.
Walsh was one of two Western Canada officials first assigned to work a College Bowl (now known as the Vanier Cup). He also worked the Can-Am Bowl in Tampa in 1979 as part of a mixed crew with NCAA college officials.
His contributions to Canadian football officiating is highlighted by his work as Secretary Treasurer of SFOA for more than 30 years as well as his duties as assignor for CJFL playoff crews from 1975-85.
He was a member of the Officials Technical Committee of Football Canada, which developed certification programs for officials across the country.
Walsh has attended and presented at clinics across the country, and was actively involved in certifying course conductors who present to others.
