Ottawa Fury FC News Release
OTTAWA, ON - For the second time this season, Romuald Peiser is the NASL Player of the Month.
The North American Soccer League announced Tuesday that the veteran keeper was the NASL
Player of the Month for September after helping Fury FC to a 4W-1D-0L record while collecting three shutouts. Peiser helped Fury FC claim crucial victories away from home in San Antonio, Fort Lauderdale, New York and Carolina vaulting the second-year club into the top of the league's overall standings.
"I am very happy right now because of what we have achieved as a team. I have to thank my teammates and the coaching staff - it has been a great season for me, but it is because of the ambiance of the club - everyone is makes it feel like a family and I am really proud to be part of the Ottawa Fury," said Peiser.
"What we did in September was really fantastic. No one was expecting that, including us. We approached the month one match at a time and when you look back we did something exceptional."
Ottawa's successful month has seen the club claim another NASL modern-era record with a 9-match road unbeaten streak (ongoing) and tie another with six straight road wins (ongoing). The veteran French keeper began the month of October just as he began September - with a shutout.
Peiser's blanking of FC Edmonton on Sunday tied yet another NASL modern-era record recording his 13th shutout of the season equaling the number of clean sheets set by Richard Martin of the Puerto Rico Islanders in 2012.
"It is almost like a movie this team," suggested Peiser. "The team had a rough start, then the guys came together, we grew into a family and now we're getting the results."
Peiser was named NASL Player of the Month for June after claiming the NASL record for consecutive shutouts minutes passing Indy Eleven keeper Kristian Nicht who set the record last season. Peiser would see his shutout streak reach 648 minutes where he claimed six straight clean sheets, also an NASL modern-era record.
"Romuald has been a very important piece of this team," said head coach Marc Dos Santos. "He will be the first one to admit that he represents the incredible work that everyone has done defensively. He works very hard in training and brings the same attitude in every game. He's a winner and we are happy that his work gets recognized."
During Ottawa's current 5-game unbeaten streak Peiser has five shutouts and will looking to help his team extend their unbeaten run Saturday night in Tampa Bay against the Rowdies at 7:30pm. Ottawa return to TD Place on October 18th to face the San Antonio Scorpions in their final regular season home match at 3:00pm. Tickets available at OttawaFuryFC.com.
