Rockstars to play at Northeastern Illinois University

October 12, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA) - Chicago Rockstars News Release

Chicago, IL - The Chicago Rockstars announce their 2006-2007 home games will be played at Northeastern Illinois University. NEIU sits in the heart of the Northwest side of Chicago at 5500 St. Louis Ave. The 2200 seat arena will be the perfect location to provide Chicago with fan friendly, family oriented and affordable professional basketball and entertainment. The Rockstars have been working very hard to provide their fans with a proper location after hearing news that their original venue, The Emil and Patricia Jones Center will not be completed on time for the Rockstars inaugural season.

Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) is dedicated to both excellence and access. The most important facets of the university's mission are to offer high quality undergraduate and graduate programs to a broad spectrum of students and to foster student growth and development. To these ends, the university attaches primary importance to excellence in teaching. Since program quality is enhanced by professional activities beyond the classroom on the part of the faculty, emphasis is also given to pure and applied research and to academic and public service.

Unique to Northeastern's mission are the two distinctive features of diversity and community partnerships. Because of its location in the Chicago metropolitan area, the university serves a population which is diverse in age, culture, language, and race. This diversity, a major asset, means that the academic programs utilize a variety of perspectives to enrich the teaching and learning experience and to prepare students for the multiculturalism which characterizes our society. The university's location also provides students and faculty with many opportunities to integrate field-based learning, research, and service with classroom instruction.

Northeastern Illinois University preserves the finest traditions of university education, augmented by active involvement in the metropolitan area, on behalf of the residents of Illinois. The 12,000 student that attend NEIU are very excited the Rockstars are coming to their campus. The students have not seen basketball on the campus since 1997 when their Division I program was discontinued.

The Rockstars also announced their 2006-2007 season ticket campaign. Ticketweb will be providing online ticket sales for the team. Ticketweb is an affliate of Ticketmaster. For more information on our ticket sales please go to www.rockstarbasketball.com/tickets.

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
