Rockstars introduce community outreach program
June 13, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Chicago Rockstars News Release
Chicago, IL. This past Saturday at the ABA owners' meeting in Chicago, Marques Sullivan, owner of the Chicago Rockstars introduced the team's community outreach program. The Chicago Rockstars have created its own 501 (C) 3 organization called the Chicago Rockstras Foundation (CRF). This not-for-profit organization was created to provide scholarship opportunities for high school students that want to pursue careers in sport business and entertainment management. The foundation is in its start-up phase but has already received enormous support and interest. The Chicago Rockstars ABA team will be the primary provider of the Chicago Rockstars Foundation. The Chicago Rockstars are committed to donate a portion of all sales revenue to the CRF.
The CRF recognizes the lack of scholarship opportunities for high school students wanting to pursue careers in sport business and entertainment management. Also, many of our youth are not even aware of the ample career opportunities in these fields. The Chicago Rockstars will start a league-wide initiative in the ABA by implementing a program called the "Front Office Hopefuls." The ABA's "Front Office Hopefuls" program will educate young adults, particularly high school students, about the ample career opportunities in sport business and entertainment management. Front Office Hopefuls will provide seminars, workshops, career days, and scholarship opportunities for our youth because we understand that they are the future leaders in our profession. ABA owners, top professional sport business and entertainment professionals and college professors will lead these events throughout the course of the year.
Teams that implement this program in their markets will select the top student in the city and fly them and a guest to the ABA Championship Game this year to be honored at the game. "This creates a great sense of pride to the student who works extremely hard in the classroom to achieve his or her goals," said Sullivan. "Children can take their love of sport and transfer that into sport business education."

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
