Published on February 7, 2003 under Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2) News Release
(Westport, Conn â February 6, 2003) The Rocket Red Spalding Infusionä Soccer Ball with "Micro Pumpä" will make its Major Indoor Soccer League debut on Friday, February 7, 2003 at the Kemper Arena as the Kansas City Comets host the Dallas Sidekicks at 8:05 PM CST. The Rocket Red Spalding Infusionä color has been in use since the beginning of the 2002-03 MISL season but the rocket Red Spalding Infusion ball will now become the official soccer ball on the Major Indoor Soccer League.
Spalding's research and development team spent 20 months developing prototypes to perfect the Infusionä soccer ball, which conforms to FIFA standards and International match play.
Spalding earlier had developed the Infusionä basketball. Much of the same technology went into the development of the Infusion soccer ball.
The hidden Micro-Pumpä enables a player or official to add air to the soccer ball virtually anytime, anywhere. To add air, simply unlock the Micro-Pumpä and pump air into the ball. The Rocket Red Spalding Infusionä ball can be seen in play throughout the other MISL cities after February 7.
Included in the testing and evaluation of the Rocket Red Spalding Infusionä Ball, the MISL's Director of Soccer Operation's, David Grimaldi stated, "After collaborating with Spalding's research and development and soccer brand management group and thoroughly testing in rigorous practice and game situations both in Philadelphia and San Diego, Spalding proved that the ball lived up to all expectations. We are excited to introduce this technology to the world of indoor soccer".
