Minnesota Swarm News Release
Rochester, NY - The Rochester Knighthawks defeated the Minnesota Swarm, 20-11, at Blue Cross Arena in National Lacrosse League action Saturday night. The club's split the home-and-home series, with each team winning on its home turf.
Ryder Bateman led Minnesota in scoring with four goals and an assist. Chad Culp added a goal and five assists for the Swarm. Matt Disher took the loss. Mike Accursi led Rochester in scoring with ten points on three goals and seven assists. Shawn Williams added eight points (three goals, five assists) and Ryan O'Connor collected four goals and three assists for the Knighthawks. Pat O'Toole earned the win.
Rochester took control of the game from the start scoring the first three goals of the contest and led 3-1 after the first quarter. Minnesota's lone goal came on the power play from Kelly Hall. Hall entered the game as the NLL leader in power play markers and has now recorded a power play goal in nine consecutive games.
The Knighthawks scored the first two goals of the second quarter before a Bateman goal cut the Swarm's deficit to 5-2. Rochester was not done however, as they reeled off the next four goals to take a seemingly commanding 9-2 lead. The Knighthawks seemed determined to not let the expansion Swarm sweep the season series. Goals from Ryan Ward, Culp and Bateman made the score 9-5 with 3:13 left in the half. Two more Rochester goals made it 11-5 at halftime.
The Knighthawks continued its offensive assault scoring the first four goals in the third quarter, three coming with the man advantage, to help build a 14-5 lead. Minnesota collected the final three goals of the period as Bateman, Riley Kemp and Hall scored.
An Andrew Martin unassisted goal 1:27 into the fourth quarter cut Rochester's lead to 15-9, but that would be as close as the Swarm would get. The Knighthawks ended any thoughts of a comeback by recording the next five goals of the game. Bateman and Tony Henderson, who was signed by the club early in the day, added goals to make the final score, 20-11 in favor of the home team.
Minnesota hosts the Colorado Mammoth at Xcel Energy Center on Friday, April 1 at 7:00 PM. Swarm fans will get the first chance to see the debut of legendary lacrosse bothers Paul and Gary Gait together in a Mammoth uniform.
