Rochester edges Long Island, 15-14

The Rochester Rattlers defeated the Long Island Lizards, 15-14, in front of 2,947 fans at Bishop Kearney Field on Saturday evening.

Blake Miller scored the first goal 38 seconds in and the Lizards never trailed through the entire game, until inside the final two minutes, as John Grant gave Rochester a 14-13 lead with a goal with 1:39 remaining.

Tim Goettelmann tied the game after Rob Parengkuan picked off a Tillman Johnson pass with 38 seconds remaining, and the game was heading to overtime. However, Rochester won the ensuing faceoff and Andrew Combs scored the game-winner with 20 seconds remaining to keep the Rattlers playoff hopes alive.

Goettelmann led the Lizards with four goals and two assists. Blake Miller scored three goals for Long Island, all in the first half. Chris Massey (1 goal, 2 assists), Matt Panetta (1 goal, 2 assists), Stephen Berger (1 goal), Nicky Polanco (1 goal), John Gagliardi (1 goal) and Ryan Moran (1 goal) also scored. Greg Cattrano recorded 15 saves in the loss.

Casey Powell (5 goals, 3 assists), Andrew Combs (4 goals, 1 assist) and Ryan Powell (3 goals) led Rochester. Tillman Johnson made a season-high 20 saves in the win.

Long Island (4-5) meets the Philadelphia Barrage (3-6) on Thursday at Villanova Stadium. The Lizards can clinch a playoff berth with a win on Thursday.
