Montreal Impact News Release
ROCHESTER, New York - The Montreal Impact lost 1-0 against the Rochester Rhinos Saturday afternoon, at Marina Auto Stadium in Rochester, in its 5th preseason match of training camp, its first game against a USSF Second Division club.
The Rhinos scored the only goal of the match at the 9th minute. Following a free kick just outside the 18-yard box, midfielder Tyler Roselund, who is presently trying out with Rochester, took the rebound coming from goalkeeper Matt Jordan.
"The first half was pretty balanced with few scoring chances on both sides, but in the second half it became a one-way match," noted Impact head coach Marc Dos Santos. "We had possession of the ball almost during the entire second half and we put them under pressure. We led 7-2 in corners. The changes to our lineup brought a new dimension to the attack. The game today is positive because we will be playing matches like this one in our league in 2010."
Having recovered from surgery to treat a sports hernia, team captain Nevio Pizzolitto played his first game of training camp. He came in at the 37th minute for Stefano Pesoli, who was suffering from pain in the shoulder.
Midfielders David Testo and Rocco Placentino, defender Stephen deRoux, as well as goalkeeper Andrei Badescu did not travel to Rochester. All four players will travel with the team to continue training camp in North Carolina, from March 23 to the 30.
The Montreal team will be playing there its next exhibition game, Wednesday, March 24 at 4 pm against the Charleston Battery (USL D2).
