Lancaster JetHawks News Release

(RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA) - Home cooking didn't work, but a trip back out on the road turned out to be what the JetHawks needed. Robby Donovan threw a career-high eight innings and Jose Altuve tripled in two runs in the sixth inning to break a tie and send Lancaster (9-9) to a 5-3 win over first place Rancho Cucamonga (10-8).

Each team had scoring opportunities in the second inning. Austin Wates opened the frame with a home run for Lancaster and the JetHawks proceeded to load the bases before the Quakes pitched out of the inning. The Quakes tied the game in the bottom of the second and also loaded the bases, but Donovan pitched out of the jam to keep the score even.

The teams traded runs in the fourth inning but Lancaster took the lead for good in the sixth inning. Grant Hogue dropped a bunt single down the third base line and Jay Austin walked. That set up Altuve, who drove a triple off the center field wall, giving Lancaster a two-run lead.

The JetHawks padded that lead against a Major League All Star in the seventh inning. Hong-Chi Kuo, pitching on an injury rehabilitation assignment, walked Wates to start the frame. Wates stole second and Rene Garcia cashed him in with a single up the middle to put Lancaster up by three.

Kirk Clark closed out the game in the ninth and is now tied for the league lead with six saves. Donovan's victory was his second straight.

The JetHawks will try to make it back-to-back wins at the Epicenter Tuesday night. Jake Buchanan (2-1) will pitch for Lancaster against Jon Michael Redding (2-1) of Rancho Cucamonga. The game begins at 7:05 and will be broadcast live online at JetHawks.com (click Listen Live to bring up CSN@JetHawks.com's coverage of the game. The JetHawks Pre-Game Show begins at 6:50.

The JetHawks return home Monday, May 2 to open a seven game homestand against the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes and the Inland Empire 66ers. For tickets and other information, call (661) 726-5400 or visit JetHawks.com.
