Rob Spon Named PBL Coach of the Month
Published on March 3, 2009 under Premier Basketball League (PBL) News Release
Chicago, IL...Manchester Millrats Head Coach Rob Spon was named PBL Coach of the Month for February.
Spon guided the Millrats to a perfect 8-0 record in the month. The Millrats are currently 13-3 and sit atop the Atlantic Division.
"I would like to thank the PBL for choosing me for this award and also the Millrats organization for having me aboard as their coach," said Spon. "It's an honor to win this award as there are a lot of quality coaches in this league. It would not have been possible to win it without my assistant coaches who put in a lot of time and effort also. We have a lot of team goals and one of them was to be undefeated for the month of February. We were able to accomplish that and are looking forward to accomplishing our next goal, which is to wrap up a playoff spot with a Conference Championship. Obviously coaches can't win awards without a great team and I have a group of very good and talented players that have bought into our system and are gelling at the right time."
Manchester is currently holding opponents to a PBL-low 95.8 points per game.
"Coach has always instilled in us to play our hardest and not to take any team for granted," stated Millrats point guard Al Stewart. "He always has us well prepared for the opposing team also."
"Coach Spon has brought defensive intensity to our team this season," said Millrats General Manager Ian McCarthy. "He has been a terrific addition to our franchise from recruiting, player development, and in the heat of battle."
The Millrats look to continue their win streak when they play the Vermont Frost Heaves at 7:05PM on Friday night.
