February 3, 2009 - Premier Basketball League (PBL) News Release
Chicago, IL - Halifax Rainmen forward Rob Sanders was named PBL Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Sanders, a 6-8 forward out of Providence, received Player of the Week honors as he averaged 22.3 ppg, 12.3 rpg, 1.3 apg, while shooting 57.5% from the field in three games this week.
"I am just doing my job trying to help my team," said Sanders. "I never thought about being player of the week, but it is a honor to be named above all the other players when there are so many good ones."
Sanders scored a season high 30 points and grabbed 16 rebounds in a 123-119 win over the Atlantic Division leading Manchester Millrats. Sanders then scored 24 points to go along with 9 rebounds against Vermont and registered his fourth double-double of the season later in the week after scoring 13 points and 12 rebounds against the Manchester Millrats.
"This award is well deserved," said Rainmen Head Coach Rick Lewis. "Rob has made a commitment to rebounds and free throws and brings great energy to the game court."
Sanders leads the Rainmen in scoring, rebounding and field goal percentage and ranks 11th in the PBL in scoring at 19.3 ppg and is tied for fourth in the league in rebounding at 11.0 rpg.
