Pulaski Mariners News Release

(Pulaski, VA) The Pulaski Mariners, Appalachian League Affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, have announced that the parent Seattle organization has assigned former Pulaski manager Rob Mummau to return to manage the Pulaski club for the 2014 Appalachian League season.

Mummau (42) has twice previously managed the Pulaski club, in 2008 and 2011, leading the initial Pulaski Mariners squad to a first place regular season finish in the Eastern Division in '08 with a 40-27 record only to lose to the West champion Elizabethton Twins in the playoffs. He returned to Pulaski to skipper the 2011 ballclub, finishing that season with a 32-36 record. His overall record in the Appalachian League is 72-63 (.533).

For the past two seasons (2012-13), Mummau has been the manager of Seattle's short-season class A ballclub in Everett, WA, the Everett Aqua-Sox, leading the Aqua-Sox to a first half Northwest League division championship in 2012 and an overall division championship in 2013. Both the 2012 and 2013 Everett teams were eliminated in the playoffs. Nonetheless, Mummau posted an impressive 90-62 (.592) winning percentage during his two years in Everett. His overall managerial record for four seasons is a solid 162-125 (.564).

"I am excited to be returning to Pulaski" stated Mummau "We have always enjoyed the fans there, It is the place where I first managed and I consider the State of Virginia to be my second home."

This is Mummau's 22nd season in professional baseball. The Pennsylvania native was drafted out of Virginia's James Madison University in the 29th round of the 1993 draft by the Toronto Blue Jays. After a nine year playing career which included 5 seasons at the class AAA level, he became a coach and scout. He remains a full-time scout with the Mariners when not managing. Players signed for the Mariners by Mummau include Seattle's young star third-baseman Kyle Seager.

Joining Mummau on the Pulaski staff this season will be Pitching Coach Jason Blanton, Hitting Coach James Lofton, Performance Coach Scott Burgett and Trainer Matt Corvo.

Mummau resides in Florida with his wife Anne and children Jake (10), Sam (9) and Maria (8). They will report to Pulaski on June 15 along with the rest of the Pulaski Mariners' squad to prepare for the season opener at Calfee Park on Thursday, June 19 vs. the Burlington Royals at 7 PM

John Dittrich is the General Manager of the Pulaski Mariners. The Mariners are the rookie (advanced) level affiliate of the Seattle Mariners. Home games are played at beautiful and historic Calfee Park in Pulaski, VA.
