June 2, 2006 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Topeka Pilots News Release
[Santa Fe, N.M.] - Santa Fe Roadrunners' Owner/President Mary Magdalene Lorang announced today that Stephen "Skip" Berry has been hired as the Director of Marketing/Broadcasting/Community Relations for the Roadrunners organization. Skip will be fulfilling his extensive job title from this day forward to usher in the 2006-2007 season with the Roadrunners of the North American Hockey League (NAHL).
Skip was previously the Play-By-Play Broadcaster for the Fort Vancouver Pioneers of the Northern Pacific Hockey League (NorPac) in Vancouver, WA. Joining the Pioneers mid-season, Skip broadcasted all home and away games up until the end of the playoffs. He was recognized by fans and colleagues as bringing an unprecedented level of professionalism and enthusiasm to Junior Hockey in the United States.
"Skipper brings a ton of energy to the Roadrunners, energy we have lacked in the previous two seasons," Said General Manager/Head Coach Scott Langer. "The Roadrunners feel that Stephen's passion for the game and to be a part of the Roadrunners family will be a great asset."
In addition to broadcasting hockey, Skip has done play-by-play for football, basketball, and Public Address for soccer. He also implemented a broadcasting program at Cascade College, which he attended in Portland, OR. Through all endeavors, Skip has gained respect and is considered an elite and up-and-coming broadcaster.
"I really look forward in seeing the organization grow in the community of Santa Fe," Said Skip with a smile. "I believe in Mary Magdalene and Coach Langer and the direction they are taking this organization, that is why I took this job!"
Skip is currently residing in Albuquerque, NM with his wife Emily Berry. They moved here from West Linn, OR where they were married in July of 2005. Skip and Emily look forward to their involvement with the Santa Fe and Albuquerque communities.
"I feel that it is important to be highly involved with the surrounding communities for the sake of the organization and the community," Skip said. "I would like to establish charities that would benefit those in need on behalf of the Roadrunners. I believe that this organization will be supported by the community and it is necessary that the Roadrunners reach out to those in need in the community."
As a Cascade College soccer player, Skip began developing an outstanding reputation for his dedication and passion at being a team player. As part of the Roadrunners he will carry out his duties cohesively with Mary Magdalene and Coach Langer. The Roadrunners are in pursuit of establishing a winning organization on and off the ice.
