Topeka Pilots News Release
We are now just three days away from our eagerly anticipated "Military Appreciation Night" on Friday. Thanks to the efforts of local media, the buzz continues to grow, as we hope to launch this tradition with a bang, bringing a record number of fans together to watch RoadRunner hockey here in Topeka.
On Wednesday morning (tomorrow) from 9:00 am to 11:00 am nearly half of the RoadRunners team along with staff will be on hand in the auditorium located at the National Guard's Nickell Armory. The Armory is located at 2722 SW Topeka Blvd. More than 200 tickets will be handed out to members of the National Guard during this event, and along with an appreciative military, we would like to invite any of you who can make it to photograph or film as the players interact wiith the soldiers.
This is a tremendous moment in the young history of the franchise here in Topeka, as the generosity of team owner Mary Magdalene Lorang along with the inherent commitment to community that junior hockey has always embraced come together in one incredible evening of sport and acknowledgement. Your presence at this ticket distribution event and subsequent coverage using your various methods (radio, TV, and print) will help ensure the success of something designed to give back a little something to the men and women who have committed themselves to our country.
The largest crowd a RoadRunner team has ever played in front of was 4,219. It was on the road, in Frisco, TX, on Nov.20, 2004. Six different RoadRunners scored as Santa Fe stunned the perennial powerhouse Texas Tornado 6-4. The largest home crowd the âRunners have enjoyed was 2,922 on Saturday, March 15, 2008. In that game, Topeka dominated Wichita Falls 9-0. It is our goal to pass the 4,219 mark on Friday, and then surpass it next season.
Thanks again, everyone, for all your support! The RoadRunner players and staff are grateful for all you do!
