Billings Bulls News Release
The Fairbanks Ice Dogs outskated and outshot the Billings Bulls for two straight games in front of a packed Big Dipper Ice Arena, but Bulls goalie Jon Anderson turned in two straight stellar performance to earn Week 3 honors as Sher-wood NAHL Defensive Player of the Week.
On Friday night he stole two points for Billings, stopping all 37 shots in a 3-0 shutout of an Ice Dogs team that, in the words of coach Rob Proffitt, played "the best three periods of hockey we played this season. Their goalie was huge tonight."
The next night, Fairbanks fired 36 more shots at Anderson, but the Vadnais Heights, Minnesota, native stopped 32 of them, winning 6-2.
"The kid was unbelievable, going side-to-side and taking on one-timers and everything else we threw at him," Proffitt told the Fairbanks News-Miner. "My hat's off to Anderson because he did an outstanding job." Bulls coach Mike Aikens remarked. "I thought he was one of the best goalie's in the league last year. He stops everything he's supposed to and a few that he shouldn't."
