Dubois County Bombers News Release
The Dubois County Bombers completed a two-game sweep of the West Virginia Miners on Saturday night by defeating them 6-1. All-Star pitcher Ryan Rizzi was fresh off of the break, and hurled his way to his second win of the season. This moves the Bombers to 5-4 and elevates them to third place in the Western Division standings.
Right-hander Ryan Rizzi had yet another spectacular outing, throwing seven innings and allowing just one run. Rizzi had some of his best stuff tonight, sending Miner hitters down one after another. He allowed just five hits and struck out three in the winning decision.
Dubois County jumped on West Virginia early, plating a pair of runs in the third inning after third baseman Joe Perez stroked a double into the left field gap to score Grant Zawadzki and Aric Marquardt. The Bombers extended the lead to three in the fourth after Nick Stoia stole second base and Miner catcher Clayton Prestridge overthrew second to advance Stoia to third. Prestridge's error was then compounded by center fielder Paul Rambaud, who allowed the overthrown ball to roll between his legs. Stoia would then score on the wild play, advancing all of the way from first base.
The gap was stretched farther in the sixth when left fielder Anthony Aceto was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. That was followed up by a Nick Stoia single that scored yet another Bomber run, pushing the lead to 5-0.
Relievers Jordan Eich and Adam Radick finished up the eighth and ninth innings for Grant Bellak's team. Radick threw the ninth, and struck out two of the four batters he faced.
The win takes the Bombers above .500 at 5-4, and just a half-game out of first place in the division. Dubois County will take their two-game winning streak on the road early this week with a game at Quincy on Sunday, followed by a two-game set at Hannibal.
The next home game for Dubois County will be on Wednesday, July 20 against the Nashville Outlaws. This will be the first game in the series, with a rematch on Thursday, July 21. Both games will begin at 7:15 pm EDT.
