RiverHawks Win Eighth in a Row
February 10, 2011 - SPHL (SPHL)
Augusta RiverHawks News Release
The Augusta RiverHawks used a big night from their big line of Matt Auffrey, Branden Kosolofsky, and Travis Dunstall to win their franchise record eighth game in a row. Kosolofsky had three points, Auffrey had two, and Dunstall scored the game winning goal in their 4-2 defeat of the Knoxville Ice Bears Thursday night in Tennessee.
The streak of eight straight wins breaks the longest win streak of the season in the Southern Professional Hockey League set by the Huntsville Havoc at the start of the 2011-12 campaign. The two-points move the RiverHawks into sole possession of second place in the SPHL, just two points behind the first place Mississippi Surge.
The RiverHawks got off to a great start in the first period, receiving goals from Auffrey and Luke Lucyk while out shooting the Ice Bears 19-6.
The Ice Bears were able to battle back in the second period, as Tyler Fletcher scored the lone goal for either team in the frame.
In the third period the RiverHawks were able to regain the lead early in the third period as Dunstall converted an opportunity that each of his line mates had a hand in creating. Ice Bears' defenseman Mark Van Vliet would make things interesting by once again narrowing the lead down to one goal as he scored with less than five minutes remaining in the game. However, Kosolofsky would fire in an empty-net goal to salt away the victory for the RiverHawks.
RiverHawks' goaltender Jon Olthuis would get credit for his third straight victory since returning to the RiverHawks, stopping 30 of 32 Ice Bears'.
The RiverHawks are back in action at the James Brown Arena Friday, February 11th as they once again face the Fayetteville FireAntz. The puck drops at 7:30pm. Tickets are available at the James Brown Arena Box Office, by calling 1-877-4AUGTIX, or by visiting www.georgialinatix.com.
