Cincinnati Riverhawks News Release

(Cincinnati, OH) – The Milwaukee Wave United bounced back from defeat in Indiana the previous night to edge out Cincinnati 3-2 in an eventful contest at the Town & Country Sports Complex on Saturday. The game got off to a flying start with 3 goals in the first 15 minutes. Milwaukee took a 2-1 lead all the way into first half stoppage time, but the Riverhawks fought back and Allan Eller's 5th goal of the season tied it up right before the break. The home side seemed to lose some creative edge in the second half after captain Marcel Matis was forced out of the game due to injury late in the first. Milwaukee forward Dino Dolevski seemed to capitalize and with 11 minutes remaining in the game helped to deliver the killer blow. After moving between 3 players he fed the perfect through ball with the outside of his foot to the on-rushing Nick Walls who, despite having no luck in front of goal prior to this point, dispatched it past goalkeeper Matt Reid off the inside of the post for the game winner. Cincinnati GM Jim Peto said after the game, "off course it's always disappointing to lose, but we're hopeful that some of the new guys will have blended into the team more by Wednesday".

The Riverhawks handed debuts to defenders Dino Diguardi and – their most recent acquisition –Lucas Okolie. They were both powerless to stop Jeremy Aldrich crossing low from the left to Greg Howes, who completed a simple right foot shot to open the scoring after 10 minutes. Howes should have doubled the lead less than 2 minutes later but couldn't control his attempted volley. The Riverhawks leveled the game in the 13th minute through Juan Sastoque who also reached the 5 goal mark for the season along with Eller. Matis played an inch perfect ball over the top of the Milwaukee defense to Craig Yacks who performed great work on the line to square the ball to Jason Cole. Cole's touch set up Sastoque who made no mistake from 8 yards out. It was Cole's first home game for the Riverhawks, and after playing in defense against the Thunder in Minnesota last week his switch to his previous position of forward seemed to be paying off. Before the game could settle, the third goal in quick succession was scored in the 15th minute by Dolevski, fired left footed across goal past an unlucky Reid.

Reid kept the Riverhawks challenge alive with a couple of great saves towards the end, firstly from Todd Dusosky's low shot and then from Chad Dombrowski's header, both tipped wide of the post for corner kicks. Dusosky was eager to take the corner kick resulting from his effort and was lucky to escape with just a yellow card after physically confronting Reid, as the Cincinnati keeper picked up the ball. The Riverhawks could have grabbed the go-ahead goal in the 59th minute, but substitute Mike Apple's left footed volley smacked off the crossbar from Eller's cross from the right. It would have been an instant impact from Cincinnati's latest addition to the forward line, who had been on the field for just 4 minutes, but his follow up header was off target.

For Cincinnati, Cole looked threatening on numerous occasions in the first half and may have given the Riverhawks a new option up front. He will be looking to convert more chances on Wednesday night when the Riverhawks return to action as they host the Portland Timbers.
