Cincinnati Riverhawks News Release
(Cincinnati, OH) â The Cincinnati Riverhawks lost tonight to the El Paso Patriots 3-2 in overtime. This loss puts the Riverhawks in third place in the Central Division and was Cincinnati's third consecutive loss.
Both teams were held scoreless for most of the first half until Cincinnati midfielder Trevor Perea opened the scoring in the 44th minute. A developmental player on loan from the Columbus Crew, Perea received the ball from fellow Crew loanee, defender Jake Traeger, on the right side of the box and fired a volley past Patriots keeper Scott Alexander into the left side of the net.
Cincinnati almost had a second goal in the first half when a shot from midfielder Chris Doré from 20 yards out hit the crossbar.
El Paso scored first in the 51st minute in the second half on a goal from Hamlet Diaz, tying the score at 1-1.
Forward Byron Carmichael almost had his fourth goal of the season when he broke away from the El Paso defense. Carmichael was all alone against Alexander, but his shot hit the right post. Carmichael almost headed the rebound into the goal, but the ball sailed just over the crossbar.
The Riverhawks took the lead again when forward Juan Sastoque scored in the 70th minute. Carmichael passed the ball from the top of the penalty area to Sastoque who was coming down the right. Sastoque beat one defender and put the ball into the right corner of the net.
El Paso tied the score again in the 89th minute with a goal by Laurenco Andrade. Regulation time ended with the game tied at 2-2, so the Riverhawks played their second straight overtime game at home.
Junhro Narito scored the game winner in the 10th minute of the first overtime period giving the Patriots the win and 3 points.
The Riverhawks next home game is Friday June 6 at 8:05 pm when the Calgary Storm visit Cincinnati. The Riverhawks will celebrate the end of the school year with students from around Greater Cincinnati. All students coming to the game get in for only $3.
