RiverHawks Edged by the FireAntz on Christmas Day

The Fayetteville FireAntz had an answer all night long as they defeated the Augusta RiverHawks 5-4, fulfilling Christmas Day wishes for the home-town fans. The FireAntz showed resilience as each of the RiverHawks goals were followed by a reply from the FireAntz minutes later.

The win pulls the FireAntz even in the standings with the RiverHawks, as both teams sit fourth with 28 points. The RiverHawks have the advantage of having played two fewer games.

The RiverHawks were led offensively by forward Lucas Labelle who tallied three assists on the night.

The see-saw nature of the game started immediately after the initial puck drop when RiverHawks' forward Jason Weeks started the scoring with a goal just 56 seconds into the game. The FireAntz would tie the game less than three minutes later when superstar Rob Sich scored his 18th of the season.

The two teams would again trade off goals later in the first period as Matt Auffrey would score for the RiverHawks, quickly followed just over a minute later by a goal from FireAnt Bobby Reed.

The RiverHawks would again take the lead in the second period when Egor Mironov would score his seventh of the campaign. However, that was followed 1:10 later by a FireAntz goal by Anthony Perdicaro, followed by a go-ahead marker by Nathaniel Brooks.

The lead would last till there was less than five minutes left in the game, when RiverHawks' defenseman Luke Lucyk tied it up on the power play. However, true to form the FireAntz would quickly regain the lead as DJ Firmiani scored the game-winning goal 1:29 later.

The RiverHawks are back in action at the James Brown Arena Sunday, December 26th against the Pensacola Ice Flyers. The puck drops at 7:30pm.
