RiverHawks Drop Close One to FireAntz, 3-2

Augusta, GA--The Augusta RiverHawks tried to dig themselves out of a late two-goal hole, but the Fayetteville FireAntz held on for a 3-2 victory.

Fayetteville made the score 3-1 on a goal by John Clewlow at 19:08 in the third period, and Augusta got as close as 3-2 when Marcus Pryde scored 20:00 into the third period.

Clewlow was all over the ice for the FireAntz, as he registered two goals in the win.

Fayetteville's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Augusta power plays. The FireAntz's defensemen bolstered Fayetteville's offensive attack, as they bombarded Robbie Mosswith 12 shots.

Anthony Bergin also scored for Fayetteville. Other players who recorded assists for Fayetteville were Mike Kavanagh, Corey Toy, Josh McQuade, Andrew Smale, and Kyle Rank, who each chipped in one.

With 24 shots on target during the contest, the RiverHawks exceeded the 19.4 shots they average per game this year.

Augusta also got a goal from Jesse Echternach as well. In addition, Augusta received assists from Myles McCauley and Matt Auffrey, who contributed one a piece.

Rank rejected 22 shots on goal for the FireAntz. Fayetteville totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. Moss recorded 25 saves for Augusta. The RiverHawks ended with 35 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major.

Augusta will take to the road for their next contest coming up on Friday, February 22 in Columbus before returning home on Thursday, February 28.
