Augusta RiverHawks News Release

The Augusta RiverHawks dominated two periods of hockey to defeat the Mississippi Surge 5-2 Saturday night at the James Brown Arena. The RiverHawks owned the games' special teams as they scored four goals on the power play and killed all 11 opportunities the Surge had with the man advantage.

The win gives the RiverHawks three wins in four games this week and gave them a 14-13 and sole possession of fourth place in the SPHL.

RiverHawks' forward Lucas Labelle extended his goal scoring streak to five games and Captain Matt Auffrey logged points in his seventh straight game.

The teams went an entire period before they were able to break the scoreless tie. RiverHawks forward Egor Mironov converted a pass from Jim Gehring just 16 seconds into the period. Mironov turned into a a repeat performance just over five minutes later when he took another pass from Gehring and poked it past Surge goaltender Ryan McNaulty.

The second period proceeded to become a parade to the penalty box, however the RiverHawks were able to extend their lead to three goals. Auffrey outworked the Surge defense in the Surge corner and sent a beautiful pass to the front of the net where Labelle tipped it in.

The teams exchanged goals in the third period, two goals a piece. RiverHawks' defenseman Curtis Megginson scored his first goal as a professional just over four goals into the period. Ryan Olidis added a goal for the RiverHawks, while Michael Richard and Ryan Scott replied for the Surge.
