
Riverdragons To Hold Open Player Tryouts For Upcoming 2003-04 NBDL Season

COLUMBUS, Ga.âThink you've got what it takes to play in the NBDL? Looking for a chance to show NBDL coaches your skills? Then, here's your chance! The Columbus Riverdragons will hold their third annual open player tryouts on Saturday and Sunday, October 25 and 26 at the Northside Recreation Center in Columbus. The open player tryouts provide local talent with the opportunity to win a spot for the Riverdragons 2003-04 training camp that begins on November 8.
The tryout will be directed by Riverdragons Head Coach Jeff Malone and Assistant Coach Rob Werdann. The first 150 players to complete all pre-registration forms, including a $75 registration fee (cashier's check or money order only), will be eligible for the camp. All registration forms must be received at the Riverdragons office by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, October 22.
Tryout registration forms are available online at www.columbusriverdragons.com or can be picked up during regular business hours at the Riverdragons offices, located at 18 East 11th Street in Uptown Columbus. Late applications will be accepted, based on availability, only at the Northside Recreation Center on the morning of Saturday, October 25 at 9 a.m., for a $100 registration fee.
The open player tryouts will feature one session per day and both days are open to the public. The Saturday, October 25 session will run from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.. Riverdragons coaches will then select 20 players from Saturday's session to advance to the Sunday, October 26 session that will also run from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.. With league approval, participants from the open player tryouts will have a chance to be invited to compete in the Riverdragons training camp, starting November 8.
Tryout participants must be 20 years of age prior to their first NBDL season, and should bring their own shoes and workout gear for the camp. Participants are also responsible for their own transportation, hotel accommodations, and meals. Players will be provided their own NBDL shooting shirt.
The NBDL, the NBA's minor league, includes the Fayetteville Patriots (N.C.), North Charleston Lowgators (S.C.), Huntsville Flight (Ala.), Roanoke Dazzle (Va.), Columbus Riverdragons (Ga.), and the Asheville Altitude (N.C.).
Designed to help grow the sport of basketball both domestically and internationally, the NBDL serves as a source of on-court talent for the NBA's 30 teams and as a diverse human resources pool for the NBA and its teams by training employees in management, operations, public relations, sales and marketing positions.
The Riverdragons open their 2003-04 home schedule on Friday, November 28 at the Columbus Civic Center against the Asheville Altitude.
