Riverdragons Team Up With Columbus Parks & Rec For End of Summer Block Party & Midnight Basketball

COLUMBUS, GA—Join Columbus Parks and Recreation along with the Columbus Riverdragons, as they say goodbye to summer with the "End of Summer Block Party" at Shirley Winston Park followed by "Midnight Basketball" at the Columbus Civic Center on Saturday, August 9th.

The "End of Summer Block Party" will run from 1:00 to 6:00 P.M. and will include carnival rides, food, and free swimming. "Midnight Basketball" begins at 8 P.M. at the Civic Center with the Slam Dunk Contest and Three-Point Shootout. The men's and women's championship games for the Fountain City Midnight Basketball League tournament will follow at 9:00 P.M. on the Riverdragons new playing floor.

Riverdragons mascot Rivvy D, along with members of the River Rage Dance Team, president Barry McMullin, and members of the Riverdragons front office staff will be on hand to meet and greet attendees throughout the day.

"With the Riverdragons goal of being a fun, affordable family destination, we are excited to be a part of these two spirited community events," said Riverdragons team president Barry McMullin. "Activities like these are where we want to be as we prepare for another successful season."

The NBDL, the NBA's minor league, includes the Fayetteville Patriots (N.C.), North Charleston Lowgators (S.C.), Huntsville Flight (Ala.), Roanoke Dazzle (Va.), Columbus Riverdragons (Ga.), and Asheville Altitude (N.C.).

Designed to help grow the sport of basketball both domestically and internationally, the NBDL serves as a source of on-court talent for the NBA's 29 teams and as a diverse human resources pool for the NBA and its teams by training employees in management, operations, public relations, sales and marketing positions.
