Columbus Riverdragons News Release
COLUMBUS, GA.âThe Riverdragons will be conducting a canned food drive at their home games on December 15th, 19th and 20th. During these games, anyone who brings a canned good will receive a $12 ticket for $5. After the game on the 20th, the Riverdragons will donate the canned goods they have collected to the United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley, House of Mercy and the Valley Rescue Mission.
"From Day 1 the Riverdragons' goal has been to enhance this great community through our involvement in it", said Team President J. Barry McMullin. "It is as important to give a little bit more on the court as well as off. Thus, by serving those in need during this holiday season, we can bring a smile to a weathered face, relief to a worried soul, and warmth to a tender heart. That is what the holidays are about."
The December 20 game against Huntsville will mark the return of Rivvy Claus. During half-time of that game, Rivvy D will present a sack full of toys to a Ft. Benning representative, who will distribute them to needy families within specific Ft. Benning battalions.
In addition to the holiday activities, the Riverdragons will be conducting the following promotions during this week:
The home game on December 15th will be a "Money Saver Monday." For this game, all tickets will be only $5.
At the December 19th game against Huntsville, the first 1,000 fans will receive a free Rivvy D Bobblehead.
At the December 20th game, also against Huntsville, the first 1,000 fans will receive a free Riverdragons license plate, which features the new team logo. Also, fans who present a ticket stub from the game on the 19th will receive a $12 ticket for only $5.
The NBDL, the NBA's minor league, includes the Fayetteville Patriots (N.C.), Charleston Lowgators (S.C.), Huntsville Flight (Ala.), Roanoke Dazzle (Va.), Columbus Riverdragons (Ga.), and Asheville Altitude (N.C.).
The league offers players the opportunity to develop their talent in a highly competitive atmosphere under the NBA's umbrella. Eighteen NBDL players representing 22 callups, three coaches and three game officials have been called up to the NBA since the start of the league's inaugural season in November 2001.
Designed to help grow the sport of basketball both domestically and internationally, the NBDL serves as a source of on-court talent for the NBA's 30 teams and as a diverse human resources pool for the NBA and its teams by training employees in management, operations, public relations, sales and marketing positions.
