
Riverdragons Extend Deadline For 2004 Summer Hoops Camp

Columbus, GA (June 25, 2004) - Due to popular demand, the application deadline for attending the second annual Columbus Riverdragons Summer Hoops Camp has been extended. The camp fee is $95 for applicants who turn in their forms by this Wednesday, June 28.
The Riverdragons are teaming up once again with basketball coaches from several Columbus-area high schools to host the second annual Summer Hoops Camp July 6-9 at Northside High School in North Columbus.
Campers can reserve their spot for the Riverdragons Summer Hoops Camp by contacting Janda Cearley at (706) 225-1098. Application, waiver, and release forms can also be downloaded from the internet at www.columbusriverdragons.com.
Directed by Riverdragons head coach and 13-year NBA veteran Jeff Malone, Dragons assistant coach and NBA vet Rob Werdann, and Riverdragons forward Erron Maxey, the Riverdragons Summer Hoops Camp will teach both individual skills and team concepts, culminating in a tournament on the camp's final day.
In addition to Coach Malone, Coach Werdann, and Erron Maxey, camp staff expected to participate include high school and junior college coaches from several local area programs. Players will be grouped by age and skill level.
Open to boys and girls ages 8-17, the camp runs July 6-9 in the new gym at Northside High School. The morning session runs 8:30 â 11:30 a.m. and is for campers ages 8 â 12. The afternoon session runs 1:00 â 4:00 p.m. and is for campers ages 13-17.
All campers receive an official camp T-shirt, a Riverdragons water bottle, a camp certificate, Chick-Fil-A and McDonald's coupons, and a voucher good for four tickets to any Riverdragons home game during the 2004-05 season.
Campers are required to have a medical form completed by a physician and/or a waiver release form completed by a guardian prior to participating in the Summer Hoops Camp.
Camp sponsors include Q107, the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer, Chick-Fil-A of Wynnton Road, West Georgia Orthodontics, WRBL, Holiday Inn North, Image Master Graphics, A&J Screen Printers, and McDonald's.
Columbus Riverdragons Summer hoops Camp Staff:
Jeff Malone: Riverdragons head coach is a two-time NBA All-Star who has quickly earned the reputation as one of the top up-and-coming coaches in the pro game today. Over his 13 season in the NBA, Malone averaged 19.0 points on his way to scoring 17,231 career points.
Rob Werdann: Riverdragons assistant coach is the all-time leader in blocked shots at St. John's University and played three seasons in the NBA with New Jersey and Denver. Werdann also has extensive experience running summer camp programs for the NBA's New Orleans Hornets.
Erron Maxey: The 6-7 forward from Providence received 2004 All-NBDL Honorable Mention honors, finishing the 2003-04 season as the Dragons second leading scorer, averaging 12.4 points per game.
