
Riptide Take Winning Ways On The Road This Weekend

CARSON, CALIFORNIA - Friday, July 20, 2007 - The Los Angeles Riptide (6-2) of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) will look to continue their winning ways on the road this weekend. The Riptide, the top-ranked team in the Western Conference, takes on the Washington Bayhawks (5-4), ranked third in the Eastern Conference, at Multi-Sport Field in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, July 21 at 1 p.m. PT.
RIPTIDE VS. WASHINGTON IN 2007: Saturday's game marks the first and only meeting between the Riptide and Washington this season. The two teams did not meet in 2006.
RIPTIDE'S LAST GAME RECAP (JULY 14 VS. DENVER): Bud Light MVP/goalie Mickey Jarboe (Navy '00) finished with 25 saves, midfielder Graham Gill (Navy '05) led all scorers with eight points (5 goals, 3 assists) and attackman Spencer Ford (Towson '99) led all players with seven assists as the Los Angeles Riptide beat the Denver Outlaws, 17-5, at The Home Depot Center on July 14. With the win, the Riptide's first-ever in five all-time games against the Outlaws, LA improved to 4-0 at The Home Depot Center this season and 6-2 overall. The Riptide, who tied a franchise record with their fourth straight victory, led the Outlaws 5-1 after one quarter thanks mostly to Jarboe and Gill. Jarboe finished the quarter with nine saves, and the only goal he allowed was scored with Denver on the power play. Gill led all scorers in the quarter with three points (1 goal, 2 assists). Gill also assisted on a two-point goal from midfielder Sean Lindsay (Syracuse â 04) to open the second quarter and newly acquired attackman/midfielder Chazz Woodson (Brown '05) his first Riptide goal about four minutes later to give the home team a lead of 8-1. Gill continued to have the hot hand as he recorded a power play goal later in the second quarter and Woodson pushed the LA lead to 10-3 with his second goal of the quarter. Through 30 minutes the Riptide held a 10-4 lead. The Riptide held the Outlaws completely off the scoreboard in the third quarter and took a 14-4 lead after 45 minutes, and outscored Denver 3-1 in the final quarter to post the impressive 12-goal victory.
WASHINGTON'S LAST GAME RECAP (JULY 14 AT SAN FRANCISCO): Attackman Conor Gill, the MLL's reigning Offensive Player of the Week, scored three goals including the game-winner with four second remaining in the fourth quarter, as the Washington Bayhawks edged the San Francisco Dragons, 16-15, at Kezar Stadium on July 14. Gill also had three assists for the Bayhawks, who snapped a three-game losing streak. Two of Gill's three goals were from two-point range and he scored a season high eight points in the game.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR: The Riptide can establish two new team records with a victory against the Washington Bayhawks on Saturday. A win would give the Riptide a five-game winning streak for the first time in franchise history and it would also give the Riptide a franchise-high seven wins in one season...The Riptide matched a league record for fewest goals allowed in one game while limiting the Denver Outlaws to just five goals in their 17-5 victory on July 14. Also noteworthy, the 12-goal win over the Outlaws represented the Riptide's largest margin of victory in franchise history...Riptide goaltender Mickey Jarboe became the first MLL player to win the same weekly award more than once, earning Goalkeeper of the Week honors after making a career high 25 saves versus Denver on July 14...Bayhawks attackman Andrew "Buggs" Combs will face his former team for the first time when the Bayhawks host the Riptide. Combs has six goals in four games with Washington since he was dealt to the Bayhawks for draft picks on June 7...After recording a league season high seven assists against Denver of July 14, Riptide attackman/midfielder Spencer Ford enter this week needing just seven more assists to break the MLL's record for most assists in one season. Ford leads the league with 34 assists and his 43 total points (9-34=43) rank second overall in the circuit.

Bring Your Dog to a Los Angeles Riptide Game: The Home Depot Center, The Pet Staff and the LA Riptide have teamed up for a one-of-a-kind event to benefit the Best Friends Animal Society. The Riptide are scheduled to host the San Francisco Dragons on Saturday, July 28, and as part of their "Dog Days Of Summer" promotion, they are encouraging all dog owners to bring their pets to the 7 p.m. game. Admission to the game will be $5 per dog and the owner will get into the event free with a donation to the Best Friends Animal Society.
