Los Angeles Riptide News Release

CARSON, CALIFORNIA - Friday, June 15, 2007 - The Los Angeles Riptide (2-2) of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) will look to bounce back from last week's 18-15 loss at Denver and end their three-game road streak on a high note when they travel to Kezar Stadium to take on the San Francisco Dragons (1-2) on Saturday, June 16 at 1:00 p.m. (PT).

RIPTIDE VS. SAN FRANCISCO ALL-TIME: The Riptide completed a 3-0 season sweep of the San Francisco Dragons last season with a 20-11 victory in their final road game of the season on August 5 at Kezar Stadium in San Francisco. The first two games between the teams were played in a home-and-home series on July 22 and 23. On July 22 at The Home Depot Center, the Riptide earned an important 17-10 victory, which began the team's four-game winning streak and helped them bounce back from two disappointing losses to the Denver Outlaws. The following day, the Riptide earned a 15-11 victory in San Francisco.

RIPTIDE'S LAST GAME RECAP (JUNE 9 AT DENVER): Attackman Terry Riordan had five goals and attackman Spencer Ford added two goals and six assists for the Los Angeles Riptide, who dropped to 2-2 on the season after losing to the Denver Outlaws, 18-15, at INVESCO Field at Mile High in Denver on Saturday, June 9. The Riptide took their only lead of the game at 6:31 of the opening quarter thanks to a goal from Riordan, but the Outlaws scored four straight goals to close the quarter with a 4-1 lead. Ford assisted on all three Riptide goals scored in the second quarter, and his third assist led to a goal from midfielder Graham Gill at 5:26 of the quarter. Gill's goal pulled the Riptide to within one at 5-4, but Denver responded with the last two goals of the quarter to take a 7-4 lead after 30 minutes of play. The Riptide and the Outlaws each scored four goals in the third quarter, but still the Riptide trailed the Outlaws 11-8 after three quarters of play. The Riptide matched a season high with seven goals in the fourth quarter, and two of their goals were scored shorthanded (Riordan and Ford), but the Outlaws scored seven goals of their own in the quarter to make the final score 18-15 in favor of the home team.

SAN FRANCISCO'S LAST GAME RECAP (JUNE 10 AT CHICAGO): Attackman Liam Banks scored four goals, including the game-winning tally with 1:13 remaining, to lead the San Francisco Dragons to their first win of the season, a 15-14 victory over the Chicago Machine at Toyota Park. The game was tied 11-11 at just over a minute into the fourth quarter before Chicago scored three straight goals to take a 14-11 lead with just under 10 minutes left in regulation. With 8:32 left, Banks scored his third goal of the game and Eric Martin tied the game with a two-point goal with 4:19 left. Banks then gave the Dragons a one-point lead by converting a pass from midfielder Jarett Park with 1:13 left, which proved to be the game-winning goal.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: Look for Riptide attackman Terry Riordan (Hopkins '95), a left-handed shooter, to continue to take on a bigger offensive role for the team. Riordan, who was previously splitting time on the left side with attackman Andrew "Buggs" Combs prior to Combs being traded to Washington, collected five goals in last weekend's game against Denver...Riptide players Riordan, Spencer Ford and Sean Lindsay account for three of the four shorthanded goals scored in all of MLL action so far this season and Graham Gill has tallied the only shorthanded assist in the league to date...Three of the Riptide's five 2007 collegiate draft selections have been activated and added to the roster...The Riptide, with a record of 2-2 heading into this weekend, have been at or above the .500 mark this whole season...Saturday's game will be the fourth road game of the season for the Riptide.
