Riptide Gain Two Picks In Next Year's Collegiate Draft

Los Angeles Riptide News Release
CARSON, CALIFORNIA - Thursday, June 7, 2007 - The Los Angeles Riptide of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) have acquired a second-round selection and a third-round selection in the 2008 Collegiate Draft from the Washington Bayhawks for attackman Andrew "Buggs" Combs, General Manager G.W. Mix announced today.
"Buggs has been great for us in many ways, and the decision was very difficult," said Mix. "On the surface, the trade might appear questionable. There were, however, a number of factors that went into our decision including Buggs' desire to reduce his travel schedule, our difficulty effectively managing an 18-man roster which includes two very talented left-handed shooters (Buggs Combs and Terry Riordan), and our need to acquire assets to guard against the possibility of losing several of our aging attackmen at season's end. We are very grateful to Buggs for what he has given our organization over the past year. We will be forever indebted to him."
In three games with the Riptide this season, Combs attempted 29 shots, scored 13 goals and registered one assist. Three of his goals were scored on the power play. Now in his fifth MLL season, Combs has 73 goals in 32 career games with the Riptide, the Rochester Rattlers and the Bayhawks. Combs played with the Bayhawks in both 2003 and 2004, and he scored eight goals in nine games over those two seasons.
Four weeks into the 2007 MLL season, and the Riptide lead the Western Conference with a record of 2-1. The Riptide will return to action on Saturday, June 9 when they travel to Colorado to meet one of their Western Conference rivals, the Denver Outlaws, at 5 p.m. Pacific.
Saturday's Riptide game against the Outlaws will be featured on ESPN 2 as part of the network's "MLL Game of the Week" on Tuesday, June 12 at 5 p.m. Pacific. Join members of the 2007 Riptide team and staff at Rudy's Pub & Grill in Newport Beach (3110 Newport Blvd), the official OC home of the Riptide, for dinner, drinks and the game on Tuesday. Rudy's will offer happy hour specials until 6 p.m. and spaghetti dinners for just $4.99 to all fans on hand to watch the Riptide play Denver at INVESCO Field at Mile High. The Riptide's brand new team mascot, Rippy, will also be on hand to assist as Riptide staff members host promotions throughout the event.
