New York Riptide News Release

Uniondale, NY - The New York Riptide have announced the contract extension of veteran defender Kevin Brownell. The deal will see Brownell remain with the club through the 2025-26 season.

Brownell, 35, joined the Riptide last off-season as a free agent after spending his first nine seasons with the Buffalo Bandits. The Millgrove, Ontario native appeared in all 18 games with the team during the 2022-23 NLL season, where he scored seven goals and added six assists for 13 points and tallied 84 loose balls and 15 caused turnovers.

"It was an easy decision for me," said Brownell. "Erik, Rich and the coaching staff continue to do everything in their power to make this organization successful. They have treated me with the utmost respect since I joined the team last year and I felt this was the right move for my family and the stage of my career. By signing this extension now, I was able to commit to this group and focus my attention on helping build a winning culture. It's always tough seeing guys leave in the off-season but I think we've brought in some really great character guys that will only add to the young talented core we already have. I'm excited to get to camp and get to work."

"We couldn't be more excited to get an extension done with Kevin," said Riptide EVP & GM Rich Lisk. "Last year in free agency we spoke with Kevin, and he believed in what we are doing and the plan we have in place. Kevin had an outstanding year last year not just on the field, but his leadership and professionalism was and is a very important piece he brings to our back end. This extension is also very exciting because it shows our commitment to Kevin and that Kevin is making a long-term commitment to the Riptide."
