
Rio Grande Valley's Chris Johnson Signs With Memphis Grizzlies

NEW YORK, Jan. 23, 2013 - The Memphis Grizzlies today signed Rio Grande Valley Vipers forward Chris Johnson for the 17th GATORADE Call-Up of the 2012-13 NBA Development League season. Johnson joins more than 110 players with NBA D-League experience currently on NBA rosters.
Johnson (6-6, 201, Dayton) has appeared in 21 games for the Vipers this season, averaging 12.6 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.8 steals and 29.0 minutes. He scored a season-high 29 points in a 127-104 win over the Los Angeles D-Fenders on Jan. 7 at the 2013 NBA D-League Showcase in Reno, Nev. He ranks fourth in the League in three-pointers made (54), and is tied for sixth in steals (38).
A four-year contributor at Dayton, Johnson played in 138 career games for the Flyers, averaging 10.6 points and 6.1 rebounds during his career.
Johnson is expected to join the Grizzlies today and be available tonight when the team hosts the Los Angeles Lakers in Memphis, Tenn.
