Richmond's Monticelli Named USL League One Player of the Week
April 19, 2021 - United Soccer League One (USL1) News Release
TAMPA, Fla. - USL League One announced on Monday that Richmond Kickers defender Juan Pablo Monticelli had been named the League One Player of the Week presented by Cleer Audio for Week 2 of the 2021 regular season, following a standout performance in his side's 3-0 away win over New England Revolution II on Saturday.
Monticelli excelled at both ends of the pitch, scoring Richmond's second goal just before halftime and playing a major role in a team defensive effort which prevented the opposition from registering a shot on target. The young defender made the joint-most tackles on his team, and ranked second among his teammates in clearances and possessions gained.
It was Monticelli's first appearance for the Kickers following his arrival from Orlando City B during the offseason. He played in 14 of 15 matches for OCB last season, leading the club in multiple key defensive categories. The 23-year-old spent time in the academy systems of both FC Dallas and Club Tijuana as a young player.
