Dubois County Bombers News Release
After the first inning on Sunday evening, the Dubois County Bombers were ahead of the Richmond RiverRats 2-1, but Richmond's pitching was excellent the rest of the night, and Richmond came back to win the game 3-2 in extra innings.
Richmond got on top in the first inning, when a fielder's choice scored shortstop Jake Hansen. Starting pitcher Sean Manaea was on the hill for the Bombers, but the run was unearned because of an error on Dubois County second baseman Grant Zawadzki.
In the bottom of the inning the Bombers fired back to take the lead after right fielder T.J. Thomas knocked a bases loaded single into left field that plated Nick Stoia and Danny Poma.
The scoring was minute after the first inning, as the two starting pitchers settled in. Sean Manaea, of the Bombers, threw six innings total and only allowed the one run in the first. Richmond's Nathan Dorris lasted eight strong innings and also didn't allow a run past the first inning.
With the Bombers leading 2-1 with two outs in the ninth inning, the RiverRats' T.J. Weir singled home Jordan Grilliot to tie the ballgame at two apiece. Rifkin would throw a season-high four innings in relief, but Richmond would get to him again in the twelfth inning for the eventual winning run. T.J. Weir was again in on the action, as he singled with one out and later advanced to second on a wild pitch. Then third baseman Josh Denny hit a double down the right field line that easily scored Weir for their first lead since the first inning.
The Bombers offense failed to come back in the bottom of the inning, after Kolin Conner led off with a single. After Conner reached, Grant Zawadzki attempted to move him into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt, but popped it up to the third baseman. After the catch, Conner was too far off of first and was doubled off for the second out. Left fielder Anthony Aceto then struck out swinging to end the game with Richmond on top, 3-2.
Dubois County will hit the road the next couple of days for matchups against the Richmond RiverRats and the Chillicothe Paints. On Wednesday, they will return home for a double-header against the Hannibal Cavemen. The first game will begin at 6:15 pm EDT, and the second one will follow shortly after the conclusion of the first. The last Bomber home game of the season will be on Thursday night at 7:15 pm against the Nashville Outlaws. Both Wednesday and Thursday the Bombers will be having Fan Appreciation Nights, where tickets prices will be cut by $4.00. Red seats will be on sale for $3.00, orange seats will be $2.00, and general admission tickets will be just $1.00!
