Richardson, Hughley Earn Weekly League Awards

PHILADELPHIA (July 11, 2012) - The second week in a row, two members of the 2012 Eastern Division Champion Philadelphia Soul (14-3) have earned weekly League honors during the team's 62-48 win over the Spokane Shock Sunday.
The Arena Football League announced that Soul defensive back Kent Richardson earned AFL Playmaker of the Week honors while Soul wide receiver/kick returner Jeff Hughley was given shared honors of the Spalding Highlight of the Week for Week 18.
Richardson was named AFL Playmaker of the Week after recording 4.5 tackles, recovering a fumble and catching two interceptions, the second of which came with 33 seconds remaining to seal a franchise regular-season record 14th win.
The second interception also brought the Defensive Player of the Year candidate's total on the season to a league-best 14, which is a new single-season franchise record (Eddie Moten, 2006).
"Kent Richardson has been a pleasant surprise in our secondary this year," said Soul head coach Doug Plank. "He has really blossomed into a perennial All-Arena type of player."
Hughley was given the co-Spalding Highlight of the Week after he took the opening kickoff back 55 yards for a touchdown. By game's end, Hughley returned five kicks for 155 yards, caught three passes for 32 yards for a total of 187 yards all purpose.
The 2012 Ironman of the Year candidate is fourth in the AFL in all-purpose yards (2,775), No. 2 in the AFL in kick return yards (1,820), which is the most in a single season in franchise history, tied for No. 1 in the League with five kick returns for touchdowns, and has caught 73 passes for 953 yards and 18 touchdowns.
