
Rhinos take five-game unbeaten streak to Seattle

(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Raging Rhinos (5-4-1, 16 points) will look to continue their recent unbeaten streak as they travel to Seattle to play the Sounders (4-1-2, 14 points) on Tuesday. The match will kickoff at 10:00 p.m. (EST) and will be broadcast on Fickle 93.3 FM and webcast at www.rhinossoccer.com. The contest will be the first of three matches for the Rhinos in the next seven days.
The Rhinos are 4-0-1 in their last five matches and have outscored their opponents by a 14-4 margin. On Saturday, June 18th, Rhinos forward Mauro Carabajal scored one goal and added one assist to lead the Rhinos to a 5-0 road win at Portland. The Rhinos scored early, in the 15th minute when Carabajal notched his first of the season on a pass from forward Jonathan Bolanos. Rochester increased their lead to 2-0 when midfielder John Ball worked his way in front of the net for his second tally of the season in the 37th minute. With just four minutes remaining in the first half, midfielder Pato Aguilera gave Rochester a three-goal lead when his 35-yard shot found the net on one of the more spectacular goals of the year. The second half saw the Rhinos continue to click as midfielder Kirk Wilson scored his team leading sixth goal of the season in the 47th minute. Wilson is now third in the USL First Division in points with 14 (6+2). Veteran midfielder Rene Rivas found the net for his first goal in a Rhino uniform in nearly eight years to close out the scoring in the match. Goalkeeper Scott Vallow made five saves between the posts to earn his second-straight shutout. Vallow is now tied for third spot among First Division goalkeepers with a 1.00 goals-against average.
The Rhinos are 4-4-0 all-time against Seattle. Last season, Rochester picked up a 1-0 road win against the Sounders on a goal by former Rhino Chris Carrieri. This season, the Sounders are fifth in the USL First Division with 14 points (4-1-2), and are averaging one goal per game (7 total goals). The Sounders have only played seven games on the 2005 season. The squad has not played a game since their 2-1 road victory over the Virginia Beach Mariners on June 4th. Forward Roger Levesque leads the team in points with six (3+0).
The Rhinos return home on Saturday, June 25th to face the Charleston Battery at 8:05 p.m. at Frontier Field. The first 3,000 fans will receive a Rhinos trading card, courtesy of QuickPix Photo and Metlife. The Battery (5-6-2, 17 points) is currently tied for third spot in the USL First Division table. Charleston is 3-2-0 in their last five matches. Overall, the Rhinos are 8-2-2 all-time against the Battery. Last season, the two clubs went 1-1-1, with each team capturing a win at home. After a 1-1 tie on August 8, 2004 at Frontier Field, the Battery captured a 5-1home win five days later in Charleston. This season, Battery forward Usiel Vasquez leads the team in goal scoring with three (3+0). Each of Vasquez's goals this season were game winning tallies.
On Tuesday, June 27th , the Rhinos will host the MetroStars of Major League Soccer at 7:35 p.m. at Frontier Field. Season ticket holders will use the "Game 16" ticket in their season booklet. The MetroStars feature many of the games brightest young stars and a few familiar names to area soccer fans. 2004 MLS Most Valuable Player Armado Guevara returns for his third season with the "black and red". Last season, Guevara tied for the MLS points lead with 30 (10+10). Rising U.S. soccer star Eddie Gaven, also in his third season in MLS, was the youngest player in league history to sign a contract (16 years, two months) two seasons ago. The MetroStars roster got even stronger earlier this month with the addition of one of the MLS' most lethal finishers in Ante Razov from the Columbus Crew. In 170 career games, he has netted 80 goals and notched 39 assists.
