(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Rhinos announced today that they have agreed to terms goalkeeper Ryan Kenny, defender Connor Tobin, and midfielder Frank Alecsi.
Tobin, a 2009 University of Vermontgraduate, comes to Rochester after playing professionally with second division Nybergsund IL-Trysil in Adeccoligen, Norway in 2010. During his time in Norway, Tobin played in 19 games, including 18 starts, playing a total of 1,801 minutes in both league and cup matches.
A standout defender with the Catamounts, Tobin played collegiately from 2005-2008, finishing his career in UVM's top-10 games played (77) list. As one of the nation's top backs, he helped Vermont rank in the top 25 in the nation in team defense during his final three years. in green and yellow. During that span, the defenseman was selected as the 2007 America East's Men's Soccer Scholar-Athlete and was named to the 2008 ESPN The MagazineAcademic All-America First Team.
Rhinos Head Coach Bob Lilley like his versatility and style of play. "He can play any of the positions in the back four. He is a hard no nonsense defender that reads the game well and is good with his distribution out of the back."
Kenny, a graduate of Sacramento State, ranks third all-time in shutouts (6) and saves (188) for the Hornets while finishing his collegiate career with the school's fourth best goals against average (1.46). In 2010 he trained with Real Salt Lake after graduating college.
"He earned good experience while training last year with Real Salt Lake" said Lilley. "He is a good young 'keeper with good size and presence. He is technically sound and has very good upside."
A graduate of Long Island University, Alesci was a 2010 PDL All-League selection tallying three goals and eight points out of the midfield for the Ironbound Express. In addition, he spent 2009 with the PDL's Brooklyn Knights.
"He is a very good attacking player who can play multiple spots and is technically refined" said Lilley. "He has good energy and vision and is a playmaker who will score some goals and is capable of the final pass."
