Rhinos Sign Forward Lorei to Contract

(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Rhinos announced today that the club has come to terms on a two-year contract with a club option for 2010 with defender Kenney Bertz.

Bertz, a 25-year old native of Fountain Valley, CA, was a member of the Rhinos from 2006-07, captaining the squad in 2007 after goalkeeper Scott Vallow was injured. He played in 46 matches during that span, netting two goals and two assists, earning him the club's 2006 Rookie of the Year award. The 6'2" 195-pounder had been with SV Elversberg of the German Regionalliga West (third division) since the start of the 2008 season where he was the only American on the club's roster.

"Kenney is a well respected and sought after defender" said Rhinos President Matthew Ford. "We are thrilled to secure his services and we look forward to his impact being immediate."

The signing is subject to USSF and USL approval and International clearance.

RHINOS SIGN FORWARD LOREI The Rhinos also announced the signing of striker Andrew Lorei to a contract. Lorei a 19-year old native of Erie, Pennsylvania attended Cathedral Prep in Erie before attending Gannon University for one season. In that time Lorei helped lead Gannon to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) championship and a berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament. The Golden Knights were ranked nationally throughout the season, rising as high as 16th.

He was one of five Golden Knights to start all 20 games. He recorded one goal, 11 assists, and 13 points. He ranked second among GLIAC players in assists.

RHINOS TO PLAY A PAIR OF MATCHES THIS WEEK The Rochester Rhinos (7-7-8, 29 pts.) will take on their arch-rival Montreal Impact on Wednesday, August 13 in a match that was rescheduled from September 3. Kick-off for the match is slated for 7:30 p.m. at Saputo Stadium.

The Rhinos 1-0-1 against Montreal this season enter Wednesday's clash in sixth place in the USL First Division with 29 points. On July 27, Rochester earned a 2-0 win over the Impact in Montreal, a place where they had won just once in their history, that coming a decade ago. Montreal, currently in tenth place, has had its struggles this season, posting a 6-9-4 mark and 22 points.

The match was originally slated for September 3 but had to be rescheduled due to the Impact's commitment in the CONCACAF Champions League Tournament. They will take on Real Esteli FC from Nicaragua.

Rochester will return home on Saturday night, August 16 to take on the Minnesota Thunder at 7:35 p.m. Currently the Thunder trail the Rhinos by two points in the First Division standings. The two teams have split the season series thus far, both earning 1-0 results at the National Sports Center in Blaine, Minnesota. Minnesota is unbeaten in their last three matches and are led by the duo of Ricardo Sanchez with eight goals and 20 points and Melvin Tarley (seven goals).

Saturday's match is "Bark in the Park" night at PAETEC Park. Fans are encouraged to bring their dog to the match. The first 1,000 families will receive a Kodak Fun Saver camera featuring Rex the Rhino and the first 2,000 fans will receive a free frisbee courtesy of PETCO.
