Rochester Rhinos News Release
Rochester, NY - - The Rochester Rhinos end their five game road trip to start the 2015 season unbeaten picking up a 1:0 victory on the road against St. Louis FC. Kenardo Forbes played a looping through ball into Colin Rolfe, who received the ball, shrugged off a defender and slotted the ball into the far corner for the game winner in the 78th minute! The Rhinos return home on April 26th for the HOME OPENER against the New York Red Bulls II with kickoff scheduled for 2:05pm.
The Rhinos, who played on Thursday night in Louisville, came out on fire! In the 2nd minute of the game, rookie strike Christian Volesky was played through on goal, but Saint Louis FC's goalkeeper Alec Kann came out and made a miraculous save to keep the ball out of the net. Kenardo Forbes was a dangerous man throughout the match. He played the through ball into Volesky and just minutes later made a nice cut back to get some room in the box, but his shot missed the target. The rest of the half was back and forth with both teams putting pressure on, but not enough to really bother either keeper.
The 2nd half was busy with fouls left and right, but no cards were awarded. The first 12 minutes of the 2nd half were dominated by Saint Louis FC. They controlled the possession and kept the Rhinos backline working. But, the defense and Scottish goalkeeper Sean Murdoch held tight and didn't allow anything through. The next 15 minutes of the 2nd half saw both teams pressuring, but neither side was able to get into the attacking third much. In the 72nd minute, Bob Lilley made the change to bring Alex Dixon and Colin Rolfe on and the attack was ignited.
Just six minutes after coming on the field, Rolfe hit the mark! Alex Dixon found the ball at his feet and played a tricky ball over a Saint Louis FC's defender's head. Kenardo Forbes ran onto the ball and used his deft touch to play a one-time chipped through ball to Colin Rolfe. Rolfe used his speed to get a step on a Saint Louis FC defender, and then used his strength to hold the defender off as he slotted home the goal in the 78th minute! That was the first goal of the season for Rolfe.
The remaining 12 minutes of the match showed the toughness of the Rhinos. The Rhinos took some knocks but remained level headed and kept Saint Louis FC off the score sheet!
Thus far, your Rhinos have a 3-0-2 record after five matches and sit atop the USL Eastern Conference with 11 points!
