Rhinos Defeat Riverhounds 1-0 in Season Opener

Pittsburgh, PA - The Rochester Rhinos started the 2016 season with a 1-0 victory over the Pittsburgh Riverhounds at Highmark Stadium. Forward Christian Volesky scored the game winning goal in the 7th minute off a through pass from Marcos Ugarte. Adam Grinwis made tremendous saves in the second half to preserve the clean sheet in cold, windy and rainy conditions.
Pittsburgh (0-1-0, 0pts) had a chance to level the score in the 23rd minute when a ball fell to Stephen Okai in the penalty area. The midfielder fired a shot on goal that was blocked away by Dominic Samuel. Riverhounds Forward Kevin Kerr had a chance in the 37th minute, but his volley from Drew Russell's crossed missed.
Both teams exchanged scoring opportunities in the early stages of the second half but were unable to get on the scoreboard. Volesky had a chance in the 70th minute to get his second of the game but his shot was just wide of the left post. The Rhinos (1-0-0, 3 pts) continue their road trip to start the season on Saturday, April 9 against the Richmond Kickers at City Stadium. Kickoff is at 5:00 p.m. ET.
