November 19, 2020 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Sacramento Republic FC News Release
The fullback is poised for another strong season in Sacramento after a stellar second campaign
Jordan McCrary was a sturdy staple in Sacramento's defense this season and the tenacious defender will keep his talents in the Indomitable City for the 2021 USL Championship campaign.
The fullback featured in 15 of 17 fixtures over the course of the 2020 season and lead the Indomitable Club in starts (15) and was the only one of Mark Briggs' men to log over 1,300 minutes this season. His body of work on the backline this year was recognized and appreciated by the entire squad, as McCrary was voted by his teammates as the Team Defensive MVP - an annual honor the ferocious fullback has received for the second consecutive season.
Defensively, McCrary led his entire squad with 25 interceptions, 36 tackles, 24 tackles won, and 83 duels won. This is the second season in a row he's led the team in all four defensive statistical categories. The former University of North Carolina Tar Heel also contributed two assists which was tied for the most on the team by a defender.
Of his two assists in 2020, one solidified McCrary's spot on the USL Championship Team of the Week for Week 9 when the defender helped to set up his sides' game-winning goal against Portland Timbers 2 on August 22. McCrary picked out Cameron Iwasa who fired SRFC in front for the 2-1 win. The wingback also won six of eight duels, contributed two clearances, recorded one interception and lead Republic FC with three tackles.
McCrary has four career assists during his two seasons in Sacramento.
One of his most impressive performances this past season was during the Indomitable Club's scoreless draw in San Diego against Loyal SC on August 1 when the tireless fullback collected a team-high eight interceptions to help preserve the shutout on the road.
McCrary will be returning to the boys in Old Glory Red for his third season after joining from MLS-side Seattle Sounders FC prior to the 2019 Championship campaign. Over his career in Sacramento, the reliable defender has made 44 appearances during league play including the regular and postseason.
