Reno 1868 FC News Release

RENO, Nev. - Reno 1868 FC fell to Tacoma Defiance in the club's second USL eCup game, losing 4-3, 5-1. The loss knocks Reno into a tie with Louisville City FC for second place in the group with three points. Reno and Louisville City play on Thursday in a crucial final game of the group stage.

"John played well today, things just didn't go our way," said Reno captain Kevin Bass. "Tacoma played well, so give them a lot of credit. Now we've got to beat Louisville and keep this thing going."

Game one was tightly contested, and looked to be within reach as Reno's John Macaluso knocked in a goal to make it 3-3 with just 30 seconds left. In the final seconds however, Tacoma would score to take game one 4-3.

Things got worse in game two, as Tacoma led 5-0 before Macaluso's goal with 36 seconds to go. Macaluso ricocheted the opening touch off the wall an into Tacoma territory, racing up the field to tap the ball in just before Defiance ran into and blew up his car.

Next up for Reno is a 12:00 p.m. PT elimination game with Louisville City FC on Thursday. The two clubs are tied with three points for second in the group behind Tacoma. The top two clubs in the group will move on to the knockout stage, with Tacoma already clinching the top spot.

Reno's do-or-die third game of the eCup will be streamed on ESPN.com and the ESPN app. Los Azules are playing for the Food Bank of Northern Nevada, and fans are encouraged to donate here.
