Ottawa Renegades News Release

OTTAWA - The Ottawa Renegades Football Club will present the Canadian Red Cross with a cheque for over $15,000 tonight prior to kickoff of the Week 15 game against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Renegades president Lonie Glieberman will present a cheque for $15,545, the total funds raised in a two-day bead necklace sale in support of Hurricane Katrina victims, to a pair of Red Cross personnel before the 7:30 p.m. start this evening.

Accepting on behalf of the Canadian Red Cross will be Janel Swain - Staff, First Aid Services, Ottawa Branch and Tara O'Reilly - Volunteer, First Aid Provision Team Member, Ottawa Branch.

"It is important for our football team to donate to the victims of Hurricane Katrina," said Glieberman. "We are grateful that our fans were so generous for what is a very important cause. The hurricane hit close to home for some of the members of the Renegades family and we are happy that the Red Cross will be able to have additional funds to help the hundreds of thousands of people affected by the tragedy re-build their lives."

"We are thankful for the invitation to partner with the Ottawa Renegades and raise much needed funds for U.S. Hurricane victims," said Casey Cunningham, of the fund development staff for the Canadian Red Cross. "The generosity from the Ottawa community was simply overwhelming. What an achievement to raise over $15,000 in such a small amount of time! Thank you to all those individuals who graciously made a contribution."

The Renegades return to action at home on Friday, Oct. 7 when they host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Tickets to the Thanksgiving weekend game are available either at the Renegades ticket office (1015 Bank Street), on the Internet (http://www.capitaltickets.ca), by phone (613.599.3267 or 877.788.3267), any Sports Experts location in the Ottawa and Gatineau regions as well as the Corel Centre Box Office in Kanata.
