
Renegades sign Williams and Scouras

Ottawa â Monday, August 19, 2002 â The Ottawa Renegades are pleased to announce the signing of a pair of key Canadian players today. They are 31 year-old wide receiver Nigel Williams, an eight-year CFL veteran and former Ottawa Rough Rider, and 29 year-old kicker Demitris Scouras, who has rejoined the team after playing three games with them at the beginning of the season. The club also released import wide receiver Kevin Alexander and non-import kicker David Miller-Johnston today. Williams joins the Renegades as a free agent after being released by the Toronto Argonauts. The 6'4", 206-pound native of Montreal played in six games and caught seven passes for 89 yards with the Argos this season. He has played in 109 games over his career, catching 233 passes for 3,371 yards and 21 touchdowns. His rookie season came in 1995 with the Riders, when he caught 20 passes for 309 yards and two touchdowns, and also returned 23 kickoffs for 447 yards. Williams' best season came with Toronto in 1998, when he caught 61 passes for 1,057 yards and five TDs. A graduate of the Hamilton Hurricanes junior program, Williams has also played in Montreal, Winnipeg and Edmonton.
The 5'8", 185-pound Scouras rejoins the Renegades after playing in the team's first three games of the season. He will go down in team history as scoring the first-ever points for the franchise, a 29-yard field goal against Saskatchewan on June 28. A native of Winnipeg, he graduated from the University of Manitoba and is a former assistant athletic therapist with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Scouras connected on 3-of-4 field goal attempts, made six converts and had a 57.4 yard average on nine kickoffs in his previous stint with the Renegades.
