
Renegades sign pair of Canadian veterans

OTTAWA â The Ottawa Renegades announced the signing of offensive lineman Samir Chahine and linebacker Charles Assmann, giving the team more depth for Canadian talent.
Chahine, 30, most recently played with the Calgary Stampeders before signing with the Renegades. Also a former member of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Toronto Argonauts and Edmonton Eskimos â the club that selected him 11th overall in the 1998 CFL Canadian College draft â Chahine will start as offensive guard for Ottawa on Saturday afternoon when the Renegades host the B.C. Lions (3 p.m., Frank Clair Stadium). The former McGill Redmen star is a native of Lebanon (see full bio below).
Assmann, also a former Stampeder, will play Saturday as a back-up linebacker and on special teams duty after being activated for the B.C. game. The former University of Guelph Gryphons product also had stints with Edmonton and Toronto (see full bio below).
