Renegades Sign Hebert to Five Year Deal

Ottawa Renegades News Release
OTTAWA - The Ottawa Renegades have made a major step forward in solidifying their defense for 2006 and future years by locking up Linebacker Kyries Hebert to a 5 year deal that will extend through the 2010 season.
The deal is even more significant when you factor in that Hebert had legitimate NFL options, plus would have been a coveted CFL free agent, but chose to continue his career in Ottawa with the Renegades.
A 25 year old graduate of the University of Louisiana-Lafayette, where he was named three times to the All-Sun Belt Conference Team, Hebert has lined up primarily as an outside linebacker for the Renegades, but also performed at free safety.
Hebert finished the 2005 season in style by picking off 3 interceptions in a victory over the Toronto Argos, which was a club record as well as snagging himself the CFL defensive player of the week award.
Hebert led the club in tackles with 66, and also was the leading special team tackler with 29 in 2005.
"We see the signing of Kyries Hebert to a long term deal as being huge for this franchise", said Renegades President Lonie Glieberman.
"He is exactly the kind of player we need to make this a winning organization, and to have him choose us over the NFL or another CFL team speaks volumes about where we are headed."
With this signing Hebert joins Donnavan Carter, defensive back Da'Shann Austin and cornerback Bo Rogers as 2005 defensive starters who are now re-signed under long term contracts with the Renegades.
