Richmond Renegades News Release
The Richmond Renegades today announced that they have signed their first three players with two having familiar names to Richmond hockey fans.
JJ Wrobel, a forward from West Lorne, Ontario and David Dartsch, a feisty winger from Point Claire, Quebec have agreed to terms with the Renegades. Joining them will be Scott Corbett another forward from Dunnville, Ontario who was recently acquired by the Renegades from Fayetteville in the expansion draft.
Wrobel, a veteran, saw action with the Richmond Riverdogs of the UHL from 2003-05 and part of the 2005-06 season. He was traded mid-season to Quad City. His best season in Richmond was 2003-04 when, in 61 games, he had 24 goals and 27 assists. He had previously played with the Anchorage Aces of the WCHL and Mohawk Valley Prowlers of the UHL. In his seven pro seasons he has appeared in 317 games, scoring 97 goals148 assists and accumulated 242 PIMs.
Dartsch has a long hockey history in Richmond. He began his pro career with the original Renegades in 1996 scoring 4 goals and 20 assists in the regular season while accumulating 214 PIMs. His most productive year was the next season when he had 17 goals and 23 assist to go along with 246 PIMs. Known more for his hard, physical play, in his 431 pro games he has 53 goals, 126 assists and 1,444 PIMs.
Scott Corbett was acquired by Richmond two weeks ago from the Fayetteville Fireantz in the first ever SPHL expansion draft. The 6' 3" - 195# forward is known for his hard play. In 135 professional games he has 37 goals, 49 assists and 50 PIM's. He has played in the ECHL with both the Augusta Lynx and South Carolina Stingrays.
"This is a great day for our club", stated John Brophy, Renegades head coach. "JJ (Wrobel) and Corbett will add some real firepower to our team and Dartsch is a mucker who's not afraid to go in the corners or front of the net to get the job done. All three will provide some real leadership to our younger players."
"I'm really excited to be coming to Richmond." exclaimed Corbett. "I have heard a lot of great things about the city and their fans and to have an opportunity to play for Coach Brophy is like a dream come true. This is going to be a great year. I'll miss the great fans and friends I made in Fayetteville and it will be a bit weird the first game. But after the first shift it'll be back to hockey. I'll do everything I can to bring a championship to Richmond. I really want a ring."
"John and Brian are forming the nucleus of our team with some very good players", noted Allan B. Harvie, Jr., President and GM of the Renegades. "Hard working, hard nosed players are what they want and they've found three of them who won't disappoint. You can be sure that they will looked up to for leadership and the best way to do that is to lead by example."
The Renegades with Goudie now have three veterans coming to camp and Harvie noted there may be others. "Everybody, the vets included, is going to have to work very hard for their position on this team. Anyone who comes to camp and is not in shape will be on the next bus home. We won't have time to wait for them. And being is shape for most teams won't even come close to what Brophy demands and calls being in shape."
The Richmond Renegades open their inaugural season on the road October 27th in Fayetteville and return home the following night for their home opener.
