OTTAWA â The Ottawa Renegades have signed non-import running back John Williams II to a one-year contract with a club option for a second season.
The 26-year-old from Waterdown, Ontario, spent most of the 2003 season with the Edmonton Eskimos.
In 2002, the B.C. Lions selected Williams in the fourth round (31st overall) of the CFL Canadian College Draft. He played 15 regular-season games and the West Division semi-final against Winnipeg for the Lions. Williams made eight special teams tackles in 2002 and recovered one fumble.
His father, John Williams Sr., played eight seasons in the CFL and won a Grey Cup championship in 1972 with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
