Richmond Renegades News Release
The Richmond Renegades today announced that TOM KOTSOPOULOS, a highly recruited center from Unionville, Ontario has signed with the team for the 2008-09 season. He will become the third veteran with the team having played more than 224 professional games. SPHL Defenseman of the Year, Dan Vandermeer and defenseman RC Lyke are the other two veterans.
KOTSOPOULOS played 7 games last season with the New Mexico Scorpios of the CHL before having to return to Canada for personal business that kept him out of hockey for the balance of last season. In those seven games he had two goals and 2 assists. He spent the two previous seasons in the UHL. In 2005-06 he started the season with the Kalamazoo Wings having 3 assists in six games before being traded to the Motor City Mechanics. In 59 games with the Mechanics he had 12 goals and 14 assists to go along with 224 penalty minutes. The following season he was with the Elmira Jackals where the 6' 1" and 195# center scored 9 goals and 13 assists in 32 games. He posted 92 PIM's that season.
"Tom has been heavily recruited by many teams this season," stated Brian Goudie, Renegades head coach. "His scoring skill, speed and experience in not only the UHL and CHL but also in the ECHL and WHA2 made him a player that we all wanted. I'm happy we were able to come to terms and look forward to having Tom as a valued member of the Renegades this season."
The Renegades also announced that forward TREVOR KARASIEWICZ would be returning for the 2008-09 campaign. KARASIEWICZ was acquired during last season from the Huntsville Havoc and had an immediate impact with the Renegades. In 28 regular season games he scored 7 goals and had 22 assists which included 3 power play goals and 2 game winning goals and was plus eight in the plus minus category. In two playoff games he had 2 assists. In his previous 18 games with Huntsville he scored 3 goals and had seven assists.
"Trevor is Mr. Dependable and very versatile," noted Coach Goudie. "He plays the power play and kills penalties and has a great touch with the puck. We happy he's back."
Renegades training camp starts Monday, October 13th and the regular season starts at home on Friday, October 24th.
