Salt Lake City, Uta. - The Tampa Bay Storm (7-3, 2-1) defeated the Utah Blaze (1-9, 0-3) 65-40 in front of 4,925 fans at the Maverick Center Saturday as receiver Hank Edwards had a career game with 14 receptions for 195 yards and five touchdowns.Â
Led by the effort of Kelvin Kinney, the Storm defense had what may have been its best game of the season collecting five turnovers, blocking a field goal and holding the opponent to a season-low 40 points. Storm quarterback Brett Dietz finished the game with nine touchdowns as he completed 23 of 37 passes for 323 yards as Tampa Bay scored a season-high 65 points.
The Blaze were led by receiver Aaron Boone with 10 receptions for 106 yards and two touchdowns who was honored by the team prior to game for his 300th career reception. Blaze lineman Roushon Rowser recovered a fumble in the second quarter that allowed the Blaze to get back in to the game after Tampa Bay jumped out to a 21-6 lead.
Utah cut the deficit to eight points by halftime however the Storm would get four of its five turnovers in the second half to take command of the game and move into a tie with the Jacksonville Sharks for the Southern Division lead.
